Top 5 Premier League teams in 2025

As the season nears the final few months, you might be thinking, which teams were the best in the Premier League in the 2024-2025 season? Here are our top five picks of the season!

5. Chelsea

After a disappointing season in 2022-2023 with a 12th place finish, Chelsea improved fast the next season with the help of the signing of Cole Palmer, who scored 22 goals guiding the Blues to a 6th place finish. This season, Chelsea had an unexpectedly good start to the season, winning 3 of their first 5 games and going all the way up to 2nd in the table in game week 13, where they would stay for 3 more game weeks. Unfortunately, they once again faced the same problem they faced the past few years, not being able to win against weak teams. Due to this they have dropped points and are now sitting in 6th place in the table

4. Manchester City

The most dominant team in the Premier League this decade and the defending champions for a fourth year in a row started the season off in the way expected of them, sitting comfortably in 1st place. However, it all started to fall apart in GW 10, when the Citizens experienced their first loss of the season against Bournemouth. From there the situation catapulted into catastrophe after the defending champions failed to win even one of the next 17 games in all competitions, including a humiliating 4-0 defeat at home to Tottenham and losses to rivals Manchester United and Liverpool. They sat in 7th place in GW 17, their lowest position in nearly a decade, when they finally won against Leicester away. Since then, the Sky Blues have had mixed results, including a 5-1 loss to Arsenal but a 3-1 win against Chelsea, and are currently in 4th position, 13 points off leaders Liverpool.

3. Nottingham Forest

A dark horse which no one could have predicted, Nottingham Forest have defied all expectations this season with a stellar campaign sitting currently in 3rd place. After getting relegated in 1999, Forest fans had to wait 23 long years until their team was finally promoted back to the top division in 2022. However, it wasn't easy at first, as Nottingham barely avoided relegation in their first and second season. Things turned around for the club after hiring manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who saved the club from relegation in 2024 and is now leading the club to what could be their first top 4 finish in the 21st century. New Zealand striker Chris Wood has also been a crucial part of their success with 18 goals so far while the defense has the most clean sheets in the league at 10. Will Nottingham be able to hold on their 3rd place spot and get Champions League football for the first time in 44 years?

2. Arsenal

The Gunners have been a top team in the Premier League in the 2020s and under Mikel Arteta have finished 2nd place twice, barely losing the title both times to Manchester City. This season however, Arsenal look to capitalize on the struggles of their Manchester rivals and are in a fierce title race with Liverpool to finally win the long awaited trophy they have waited over 20 years for. The former Invincibles made a statement last week after battering City 5-1, one of their biggest wins over the Sky Blues in history. Now the question is, do they have what it takes to close the 4 point gap between themselves and Liverpool and lift their 14th league title?

Before unveiling the number one team, here are a few honorable mentions:

Honorable Mentions: Newcastle, Bournemouth, Aston Villa

Three teams who have not had much to celebrate in many years, are tearing up the Premier League right now. Newcastle, who after impressing all with a 4th place finish in 2023 one season after avoiding relegation, are now back in the race for the top 4. Bournemouth, who have always been a mediocre team in the Premier League, are also now 1 point behind City for the 4th spot. Aston Villa after securing Champions League football for the first time in 42 years are also right behind the European spots this season.

1. Liverpool

Who else but the Reds themselves? Liverpool under new manager Arne Slot have only lost one game all season in the competition and are currently sitting in 1st place, 4 points ahead of Arsenal with a game in hand. Much of their success has been attributed to their star player, Mohammed Salah, with a whopping 22 goals and 14 assists in the campaign so far. After an emotional farewell to legendary manager Jurgen Klopp, the team have been able to continue his success if not improve upon it with Slot. While Liverpool have always been a top team in the past decade, they have always been stopped by Manchester City from being champions. But now, with the threat of their rivals seemingly low this season, will the Reds finally be able to win a historic 20th league title to match Manchester United?
